Sony FX2 Full-Frame Cinema Camera – Body Only

This is the FX2 without Sony's XLR handle: the same camera, lighter and cheaper, for shooters who record sound separately, run the camera on a gimbal, or already own an audio solution. With a 33 MP sensor, a mechanical shutter and a viewfinder, it is also the Cinema Line body best suited to stills.

What it does well

• Hybrid shooting: about 33 MP stills with a mechanical shutter (1/4000 s) or electronic shutter (1/8000 s), at up to about 10 frames per second.
• Video: 4K at up to 60p in XAVC HS or XAVC S (up to 200 Mbps, 10-bit 4:2:2), plus XAVC S-I 4K and DCI 4K at up to 600 Mbps.
• Viewfinder: 0.5-type, about 3.69 million dots, 0.70× magnification. Easier framing outdoors than a screen alone.
• Audio: 3.5 mm microphone and headphone jacks on the body. Sony's XLR handle can be added later.
• Stabilisation: in-body sensor shift.
• Weight: about 679 g with battery and card, which matters on a gimbal.

Good to know

4K goes up to 60p; 120p slow motion is Full HD only. The camera uses the NP-FZ100 battery and records to CFexpress Type A or SD in slot 1 and SD in slot 2.
